Reflection on Technology

What I have learned while in T&L 339 on technology.

It is from T&L 339 and other T&L courses that I have learned that technology can help students immensely who struggle with their attention, hearing, and those who have learning challenges like dyslexia. That is why I intend on teaching with a in real time subtitles, and other assistive technologies. I mentioned in my classroom technology expectations that technology can be used as a tool, and AI has given teachers the ability to use as a great tool to help channel students focus. I intend on using it to help keep students in the classroom and to keep giving them the best opportunity to learn. I also have come to recognize that students are stimulated through games, sometimes only accessible by technology and that they will try their best to access that regularly depended upon stimuli. I recognize, though I want to not use technology to play games, I understand it is unavoidable. I intend on using these stimuli to still grow learning, something that I did not totally consider at the beginning of this course. As for the comparison made within one of the course videos that "I would not tell a student to not wear glasses if they needed glass or not use a cane if they need a cane" I reject this premise. I believe there are students who use assistive technology because it was the simpler option then going through the work to not rely upon it. I believe these students have been done a disservice. They have the capability and are sometimes not afforded the ultimate goal which is the opportunity to not rely on assistive technology and to establish skills that will promote long term learning. This is certainly not the case for all students, but for students who simply "lack the confidence, or the stamina to write for "long periods" of time", I want to work with you! I want to help those students work on their writing stamina. I want to show them that through practice specifically the practice of writing, that they are capable and that technology assistance is no longer needed. This is difficult and requires that those students have a teacher who will step up as their assistance. I want to take that challenge, and all the other challenges associated with teaching and really impact these students in a positive way, and to embolden them with a confidence that will provide more success than their current assistance. As a technoskeptic I want to put technology in its place, that students come to know it better as a tool, rather than an escape from learning.
